Firm wins award for design and sustainability by post saves energy
Imagine yourself stuck in traffic, under the Sun of summer, because a truck is standing in the middle of the street exchanging the light poles. Was this uncomfortable situation that led the designer Terence Nogueira Junior Cross, ZipLux, resident of enterprise incubator of Coppe/UFRJ, create the ZipLux, totem economic lighting and easy to maintain. The product has won on Friday in the United States, the second the IDEA Award 2008, the largest international design award,
Commercial/Industrial category. Before that, the product already had gold in the IDEA/Brazil, being awarded still in category “Featured sustainability”.
ZipLux innovation is not use lamps on top, as in conventional poles. The pole has as a reflective lamp light source at the base, connected to fiber optic cables that distribute the light upwards, until about four meters in height, and on the ground, clearing the sidewalk. Thus, there is no loss in the scattering of light and are required less poles to illuminate a pathway.
Maintenance, which is why the product was developed, is much more practical, since the use of heavy-duty apparatuses like a truck and a scaffold. The design also benefits the maintenance, allowing it to keep a more correct posture during the work, since you don’t need to work with your arms in the air or have contact with the gases of the lamps.
Despite being a time accessible to potential predators of the patrimony, the lamp is protected by a sealed compartment that opens only with special tools. Have been created so far four totem models: the Lamp, original model; the Led, which can be programmed to light gradually; Solar, powered by sunlight, regardless of power source; and the hybrid, which operates both with solar energy and the electrical network:
—Solar energy is one of the major gains of the product as environmentally sound—explains Walen.
By using a technology that requires more resources for the production, the ZipLux Solar is more expensive: it costs 1000 R $12.5, while the Lamp goes for 1000 R$9,6. For now, the equipment developed are for local lighting of average movement of people, such as parks, gardens and courtyards condominiums of malls, however, there is the intention of the company to produce higher totems to high circulation locations, such as highways and roads.
